SABATTUS – On Saturday Jan. 30, 2021, Walter “Buck” Getchell of Sabattus, loving father and grandfather passed away at age 74.

Walter was born Aug. 8, 1946, in Bath, to Ardis E. Footman (Hart). He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1967 and was a Vietnam veteran.

In his early years he worked as a shipbuilder before becoming an accomplished journeymen millwright. Later in life he was a volunteer driver for Community Concepts.

On any given day you could find him talking on one of his many CB radios, riding his motorcycle, tinkering in his garage, or perfecting his latest recipe on his beloved smoker.

He will always be remembered for his amazing sense of humor and sharp wit, as well as his big heart of gold. To know him was to certainly love him.

Walter was predeceased by his mother, Ardis E. Footman (Hart), stepfather, Harold W. Footman Jr., and his sister, Holly.

He is survived by his daughter, Jacqui C. Marton (Getchell), his son, Jeremy W. Getchell, and his daughter and best friend, Amber A. Getchell; grandchildren Arianna, Kylei, Jace and Gavin, as well as sisters, cousins and many friends he considered family.

Per his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held at a later, undetermined date.
