Hope B. Millett

NORWAY – Hope B. Millett, 88, passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn on Friday, Feb. 19, 2021.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1932 to Earl and Ruth (Woodworth) Bradford. She graduated from Norway High School in 1951 and attended Gorham State Teachers College, graduating on June 10, 1955. June 11, 1955, she married her high school sweetheart, Bernard “Bun” Millett.

She worked at the family-owned Norway Laundry through her high school years; taught at the Welchville Elementary School then took time to raise her family. Later, she worked at Family Fabrics in Norway, returning to teaching in 1984 at Guy E. Rowe and Oxford elementary schools.

Hope and Bun enjoyed camping, and were members of the Swing Bears Square Dance Club. She was an avid seamstress and loved costuming the Community Musicals (12 years), birdwatching, visiting with family and friends, and anything chocolate. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church, donating her knitted mittens to their Christmas Mitten Tree.

In 2018 she received The Father Don McAllister Award for her exceptional contributions to The Norway Historical Society for her 15 years recording births, marriages, and deaths in the Oxford Hills area.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori Millett, Norma Millett Smith, husband Joey; grandsons, Ryan Smith, wife Chelsea, Noah Smith, partner Makayla Starbird; sister, Georgine Hall, brother, Bruce Bradford, wife Sally; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind many dear and special friends.

A special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Stephens Memorial Hospital, Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice House.

A graveside service will be held at a later date.
