The Maine Department of Labor is warning about phishing attempts disguised as fake unemployment help.
Scammers are posing as the Department of Labor on social media and asking people to direct message them for help with unemployment, the department said in a news release Saturday.
If you’re on Facebook, look for the Department of Labor’s blue checkmark to make sure it’s a verified account. The official Maine DOL Facebook account is https://www.facebook.com/MElabor.
“The Maine Department of Labor will never ask for sensitive information via social media or direct messenger,” labor officials said in a news release. “The Department is asking the public stay vigilant, never share personal information through social media, and to report fake pages immediately.”
The department is working with social media platforms to remove the posts.
