SOUTH PARIS – John Child, 87, of West Peru, Maine, passed away on Monday, March 22, 2021, at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway with his four kids by his side.

He was born on May 12, 1933, the son of Floyd and Ethel Child. John graduated from Dixfield High School in 1951. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952. He was a physician’s assistant and cook. He received the Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal, Korean Defense Service Medal and the Navy Occupational Service medal. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a foreman for Diamond International in Dixfield.

On July 2, 1966, John married Lorna Noyes. Between the two of them they had 13 children. John was an avid Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and N.Y. Giants fan. He also followed the NASCAR circuit and followed D.B. Child Motorsports at Oxford Plains Speedway. His claim to fame is throwing a no hitter for Dixfield High School in 1951. John coached Little League for many years. John and Lorna enjoyed camping and fishing.

John is survived by his five children, John Child (Gina), Cindy Child, Stephanie Palmer (Mark), Steve Child (Felicia), Shawn Child (Stormy) and daughter-in-law, Sandy Child; eight stepchildren, Jim and Pat, Linda, Patty, Janice, Ted, Tim, Michael; his sisters, Carol Cayer and Linda Knowles; grandchildren, Erica Cole, Jessica Robbins, Kevin Gallant, Ryan and Marcus Palmer, Mindy Child, Kaitlyn Poulin, Angelyn Lecours, Vanessa Child, Emily Maenza, Andrew and Logan Child and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Lorna Child, his son, Donald Child, his brothers, Jim Childs and Charlie Child, sister, Gloria Walker, grandson, Craig Langervin and the mother of his children, Sally Child
