John Nicholas Karahalios

LEWISTON – John Nicholas Karahalios, 98, of Lewiston died Friday April 2, 2021, at his home. Born in Lewiston on Nov. 6, 1922, the son of Nicholas Karahalios and Christina Sioras. He was educated in local schools and earned an associates degree from Bentley College. He also served in the Navy during World War II as a gunner on the ship George A. Johnson, a destroyer escort.

John worked at Bates Mill for many years before becoming self-employed. On Sept. 6, 1953, he married Shirley A. Driscoll.

John was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lewiston. He liked to spend time with his family, kept in shape by walking around Lewiston-Auburn and getting together with his old Navy buddies.

He is survived by his daughter, Tina Bullock , his son, Richard Karahalios and four grandchildren, Nikolai, Reed, Hannah and Lindsay.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Shirley, one brother, Anthony and two sisters, Katherine and Georgia.

Visitation will be held at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 155 Hogan Road, Lewiston, on Saturday, April 10, starting at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Interment in the spring, Oak Hill Cemetery. Condolences and donations may be accessed online at http://www.albert-burpee.com.
