When Lewiston High School students returned from school vacation April 26, they were greeted with notes of encouragement posted on lockers throughout the school.

The Lewiston Youth Advisory Council was recently contacted by Lewiston High School teacher Judy Radigan, who was planning to decorate the high school with uplifting notes and colorful bulletin boards to greet returning students.

As such, she asked the youth council if it could do another “Lock in Your Kindness” event like they did in 2019 by placing post-its notes on lockers, which had been done that year as part of the group’s anti-bullying campaign. The council responded in the affirmative, and several members began writing uplifting, encouraging post-its.

Four youth advisory council representatives posted lockers April 23 while Radigan decorated areas of the school. The representatives included Vice-Chairwoman Katie Morin, Julia Paquette, Chairwoman Hope Rubito, and Treasurer Damon DeWitt.

The council was established in 2001 by the Lewiston City Council. It is accepting applications for the 2021-22 year, with applications due May 14. Applications can be submitted online at lewistonmaine.gov/lyac21-22.
