The University of Maine at Fort Kent recently presented its annual student awards and scholarships to both undergraduate students and those who graduated this spring.
These awards and scholarships are presented to deserving students for their contributions to the campus and their academic achievements.
Jacob Paris of Fort Kent was presented the John L. Martin Environmental Scholarship Award. The Thomas S. Pinkham Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Shane Tweedie of Winthrop and Andrew Kooken on Hampstead, New Hampshire.
Luse Lumas of Tracy, California, was honored with the Student Senate Outstanding Senior. Luke Mason of Bethel was presented the UMFK Alumni Association Outstanding Senior Award.
Tolulope Oyeniyi of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, was awarded the Gretchen Prize in Fine Arts, which recognizes a student who shows exceptional initiative and industry in the visual arts. She also was named the recipient of the Computer Applications Award, for her high-grade point average in computer science courses and future growth and development potential in the computer applications field.
Kimberly Blanchette of Frenchville was honored with the Behavioral Science Award, which is given to an academically strong graduating senior, who has either majored or minored in the behavioral sciences program.
Lea Pelletier of Wallagrass was awarded the Biology Award, which is given to a student in recognition of academic excellence and expected future contributions within the area of biology.
Forestry student Adam Bagley of Parkman was presented with the Applied Forest Management Award, For his outstanding achievement and positive attitude toward learning.
Dylan Jurson of Houlton earned The Cybersecurity Award, for his academic excellence and expected future contributions within the area of cybersecurity.
The Business Management Award went to Kyle Chamberland of St. Agatha and Amber Rankin of Fort Kent for their outstanding work completing the degree program.
Christopher Fox of Hampden was presented the Emergency Management Award for his academic excellence and expected future contributions within the area of emergency management.
Benjamin Ruest of Madawaska received the Criminal Justice Award for his academic achievement and demonstrated active in the discipline.
Connor McLain of Rochester, New Hampshire, was presented the Conservation Law Enforcement Award in recognition of academic excellence and future contributions within the area of conservation law enforcement.
Parker Jandreau of Fort Kent was presented the student award in the Rural Public Safety Administration program.
Three separate awards were presented to UMFK nursing students. The Outstanding Traditional Nursing Award was presented to Orobosa Baptiste of Edo State, Nigeria, and Amanda Milligan of Livermore Falls. Amelia Capella of Woolwich was presented the Outstanding RN-BSN Award, and Peter Nyame of Fort Kent earned the Outstanding Accelerated Nursing Award.
The Faculty Academic Achievement Awards were presented to Valedictorian Oyeniyi and Salutatorian Baptiste.
Benjamin Ruest earned the Associate of Arts Academic Achievement Award for his outstanding work toward attaining a two-year degree.
Jonathan Haley of Fort Kent received the Associate of Science Academic Achievement Award was awarded for his outstanding work toward attaining a two-year degree.
Oyeniyi was presented the Dean’s Award, given to a junior or senior student with a high-grade point average and has demonstrated scholarly attributes.
The Presidential Award for Academic Excellence is awarded to students who have achieved the dean’s list for seven consecutive semesters. The following students honored were Maddison Arnold of Holden, Blanchette, Makayla Boudreau of Hudson, Torri Bray of Ellsworth, Bryce Coffin of Stockholm, Morgan Crocker of Stetson, Brooke Howland of Houlton, Sarah Manzo of Orono, Oyeniyi, Alexander Ruest of Madawaska, and Alyssa Smith of Carmel.
Luke Mason was presented the Haenssler Prize Award, given to a graduating senior who has shown courage in overcoming all obstacles in achieving high academic standing.
The senior class honored Stephen Hansen, professor of biology and environmental studies, and Sandy Pelletier, lecturer of nursing, with the Outstanding Faculty Award. Lois Canzoni, student affairs’ administrative specialist, and Denise Potvin, nursing clinical placement and testing coordinator, were honored with the Outstanding Staff Award for the 2020-2021 academic year.
