Fifty-three percent of Republicans think Trump is our true president. Twenty-three percent believe the QAnon movement beliefs are correct.
And did people notice that the GOP blocked a bill for an investigation of the Jan. 6 insurrection at our capital? The bill’s failure marks the first successful GOP filibuster this year.
Sen. Matt Gaetz has been talking about armed rebellion against our government while he is being investigated for sex trafficking with a 17-year-old. Marjory Taylor Greene has been comparing the mask-wearing requirements to the Holocaust, and she likened Democrats to Nazis.
It makes no sense, but their followers truly believe they are correct.
What would the folks who defeated the true Nazis in World War II think of these people and the GOP cowardice in our Senate? What would people today think of them?
The forces of fanaticism are on the rise in America. Single-minded extremism that believes Trump is our savior and that an evil cult is ruling the planet while Democrats are wrapped in a conspiracy against America and secretly working to hold down the Black population. Such insanity is alive and well amongst “conservatives” all around us.
This is not something I’m imagining or something limited to our southern states — it’s everywhere.
