Jay E. ‘Bird’ Partridge
SOUTH PARIS – Jay Partridge, 65, of Norway and South Paris passed away Friday June 4, 2021 peacefully at Stephens Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. He was born in Norway on Dec. 21, 1955 to Jerry and Frances Partridge.
He was a 1974 graduate of Oxford Hills High School and proud to be a 1979 graduate of Springfield College earning a Bachelors Degree in Health, Physical Education and Dance.
Jay worked a short stint at Union Central Life Insurance and Wilner Wood Products and then spent the bulk of his career working in various supervisory and management positions at the family-owned business CB Cummings & Sons located in Norway; finishing his last 15 years as a Health & Physical Education teacher at Lake Region Schools.
Jay was active in the community: he was a member of the Maine Education Association, ASA Umpire for Andy Valley, Oxford Hills YMCA, Rotary Club of Oxford Hills, Western Maine Management, Board of Directors on Wood Products Manufacturers Association, Oxford Hills Growth Council, Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce, General of Rat Patrol International, Norway Country Club Stockholder and past Director, Western Maine Health Corporator and Norway Savings Bank Corporator.
Jay was a caring, thoughtful husband, father, grandfather, brother and co-worker. Family and friends were very important to Jay. He had a good sense of humor (salad anyone?) and always wanted everyone to relax and have a good time. He was a top-notch water skier in his younger years and switched to golf and fly-fishing in his later years. He never used a worm on Kennebago! He loved being at the family camp on Lake Pennesseewassee, watching the sunsets and taking a tour of the Lake was a favorite pastime.
Jay married his best friend, Deb Hodgkin, on Oct. 5, 1991; a marriage cut way too short.
His wife, Deb, survives him as well as daughter Lindsey Campbell (Derek) of Mechanic Falls, stepson Josh Marr (Abbie) of Norway; brothers Bob Partridge of Norway, Brian Partridge (Brooks) of Paris Hill; grandsons Alex, Aden, Owen and Anderson; mother-in-law Geraldine Hodgkin of Scarborough; brothers-in-law Peter Hodgkin of Scarborough, Michael Hodgkin (Joyce) of Texas, Doreen Hodgkin (Linda) of Massachusetts; and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his dad, Jerry C Partridge, mom, Frances C Partridge and father-in-law Perley Hodgkin.
We would like to thank Dr. Deblock, Dr. Calendar and the supporting staff at Stephens Memorial Hospital for their professionalism and compassion during Jay’s stay as well as Dr. Stefan of Portland Gastroenterology.
A Celebration of Jay’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at Chandler Funeral Home, 45 Main Street, South Paris from 3 to 6 p.m. with a service by Don Mayberry at 6 p.m.
