Mary Pickford, who has delighted so many millions as the Glad Girl in Pollyanna is at the Empire today and Saturday in “Suds” a role said to be entirely different from anything in which from anything she has heretofore appeared.

50 Years Ago: 1971

Maj. Peter H. Durgin, missile and munitions representative at Fort Lee, Va., received his gold oak leaf insignia from Col. Herman B. Boyle, commanding officer of the First FASCOM at Fort Lee. Major Durgin’s wife, Judy, assisted Colonel Boyle in the promotion ceremony. Major Durgin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Winslow S. Durgin of Shepley St., Auburn. Mrs. Durgin is the daughter of State Rep. and Mrs. Bertrand L. Pontbriand of Main St.. Auburn. Major Durgin, his wife, and children, Debbie and John, are now vacationing at the Taylor Pond summer home of her parents.

25 Years Ago: 1996

The Lewiston Police Department, in conjunction with the Lewiston drug free schools program, is distributing free police trading cards at the Lewiston Police Station and the Lewiston Public Library. This week’s card is Officer Ronald E. Dumont on card number 20. Lewiston Police Department members will also be present to meet children and give them cards during activities at the Lewiston Parks and Recreation Department, library, schools and lunch programs.
