AUBURN –Jeannette C. Bernard, 77, passed away peacefully Friday July 2nd after a short but hard-fought battle with Advanced Stage Alzheimer’s Disease at Russell Park Manor, Lewiston, Maine. She remained strong through her illness, never complaining through the fear and discomfort of her disease.

She was born in Lewiston, Maine, February 26, one of seven children to Maxwell and Cecile Dumont.

 

As a young adult she worked at Arrow Hart, and the Bates College Cafeteria as a short order cook until she married and raised her children, Eileen and Michael.

 

Jeannette took great pride in being a homemaker and home is where she found herself the most peaceful and happy. After she raised her children, now a single parent, she returned to work at Bates College where she met her soul mate and true love of her life, Roy Bernard. They married on Thanksgiving Day, 1985 and enjoyed 37 happy years together.

 

Jeannette dearly loved her family and friends and they in turned enjoyed her quick witty sense of humor, kindness and compassion. She loved her Boston Red Sox and traveling with Roy to the casinos, where she was always the big winner.

 

When Jeannette and Roy married, she gained a whole other family whom she loved and who loved her in return. Roy’s daughters were very dedicated to Jeannette and thanks to the care provided by the team of Roy, Eileen and Betty, Jeannette was able to remain home until the last few days of her disease.

 

Her family would also like to thank the staff of Russell Park Manor who gave great care to Jeannette and compassion to her family when they needed it most.

 

She is survived by her devoted husband and caretaker, Roy Bernard of Auburn, her daughter, best friend and caretaker Eileen Mosher of Minot, son Michael Goughnour and his wife Janet of Lewiston, and Roy’s children,  Betty Moore and her companion Wes Cory of Lewiston, Rose and her husband Gerry Lacasse of Harrison, and Tony Bernard of Lewiston, as well as their many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Lorraine Brown of Minot and Rita Dion and her husband Andy of Boca Raton, Florida, and brothers Robert Dumont of Lewiston, and Paul Dumont and his wife Bonney of Williamsburg, VA and many beloved nieces and nephews.

 

She was predeceased her parents, and her beloved brothers Victor and Richard.

 

The family asks in lieu of flowers to please make a donation in her name to Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, 2021 Walk to End Alzheimers Lakes & Mountain to be held on September 18, 2021. Even better, sign up to walk to help end this devastating disease.

 

A celebration of life will be held Friday July 23 at 5pm at The Fortin Group 217 Turner St. Auburn.
