Robert Joseph Grinnell Jr.

RUMFORD – Robert Joseph Grinnell, Jr., 73, passed away on October 12, 2021 at his home. “boB”, as he liked to write it, was born on February 15, 1948 in Rhode Island and moved to Maine where he raised his family for the past 42 years. He was a retired police officer, and proudly served the State of Maine as a bail commissioner. Bob was known to many as a friend, advisor and a real life superhero. He dedicated his life to his family. His world revolved around his grandchildren. He taught many tiny visitors how to “scramble eggs,” showed us that Hawaii and Rhode Island were actually located in Lake Auburn, and always had the best Dad jokes. Rest easy, Papa, we miss you already. You will forever be “right there, like sleeves on a vest.”Robert is survived by Margaret McNeal; his daughters, Katrina Salmon of Rumford, Sarah Grinnell-McNeal and her husband, Daniel Knox of Falmouth.; his grandchildren, Leon Salmon, Zakai Salmon, Lily Salmon of Rumford, and Moira Knox of Falmouth; his brothers, David Grinnell, Roy Grinnell and Donald Anderson; and sisters, Kim Grinnell, Margaret Russo, Sandy Anderson, Kim Anderson and Susan Forman; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob is predeceased by his father, Robert J. Grinnell Sr.; step-mother, Gertrude Grinnell; and granddaughter, Azhane Salmon. A celebration of life is scheduled for November 7, 2021 from 12-3 p.m. at the Eagles Club in Rumford. In lieu of flowers, donation in Robert’s name to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.
