Class D quarterfinal
No. 6 Poland (2-4) at No. 3 Freeport (5-2)
Friday, 6 p.m.
The Knights’ and Falcons’ regular season meeting was canceled due to COVID-19 issues. Freeport’s only losses were to Class D’s top two seeds, Foxcroft and Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale. Poland, meanwhile, has played every team fairly close except for the classification’s top two.
8-man Small School South final
No. 5 Maranacook (4-3) at No. 2 Dirigo (7-2)
Friday, 7 p.m.
The fifth-seeded Black Bears showed in their 8-man Small School South semifinal win over Telstar that they are much better than they were at the start of the season, which included a loss to the second-seeded Cougars on Sept. 17. Dirigo also is much better, having won seven straight games.
Class C South semifinal
No. 5 Wells (5-4) at No. 1 Leavitt (6-0)
Friday, 7 p.m.
This was Class C South’s marquee matchup two years ago. The fifth-seeded Warriors’ revenge win over York in the quarterfinals hints that this year’s might live up to that billing, but the top-seeded Hornets have been pretty dominant in their six wins this season.
Class D quarterfinal
No. 5 Lisbon (3-3) at No. 4 Oak Hill (4-2)
Saturday, 12:30 p.m.
The fourth-seeded Raiders defeated the No. 5 Greyhounds in Week 2. Both Class D squads are much improved since then, particularly Lisbon, which has won three straight games since an 0-3 start. Postseason matchups between these two rivals have a habit of defying expectations.
Class D quarterfinal
No. 7 Bucksport (2-5) at No. 2 Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall-Dale (5-1)
Saturday, 7 p.m.
The seventh-seeded Bucks went 0-3 in three (long) trips to the Sun Journal’s coverage area during the regular season. Now they’re back for a Class D quarterfinal matchup with the second-seeded Ramblers, who defeated Bucksport 41-20 in the season opener and are coming off their first loss of the season.
