Parking bans, wind advisories and power crews on the ready. Sound familiar?

Cities and towns across the state were bracing Friday night for what may be the season’s first significant storm.

Snow in most areas is expected to begin falling Saturday afternoon. Lewiston-Auburn and surrounding towns were told to expect between 4 and 6 inches by the time the storm winds down Sunday morning.

Southern parts of the state might see up to 8 inches, weather forecasters said, while others may get more of a ‘wintry mix.”

To add to the fun, forecasters also reported that wind gusts could reach 55 mph, which could lead to tree limbs coming down on lines and power outages.

Police and city officials were preparing for what might be the first plowable amount of snow of the season.

Lewiston announced a winter parking ban will be in effect from 5 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Auburn declared a parking ban will be in effect from 6 p.m. Saturday to 9 a.m. Sunday.

By late afternoon Friday, just about all area towns had announced similar parking bans as the storm swept toward Maine.
