David C. “Bernie” Burnham

AUBURN – David C. “Bernie” Burnham passed at The Hospice House with family by his side

Born in Lewiston, the first son of Carroll and Florence (Tarckini) Burnham. He attended Auburn schools, graduating in 1969 from Edward Little.

On Sept. 20, 1969 he married Gloria “Jeanie” LaChance the woman he would win no arguments against but would share all of his love, pain and humor with. He was devoted to her and their children until the day of his death.

He worked for Superior Concrete for 40 years, and Chapman Trucking until his partial retirement. His second jobs included Leighton’s Store, and the local car wash. In his retirement he worked for O’Reilly’s. Truck driving fed his passion for the geography of Maine and New England. He always wanted to know where you were from and where you had traveled to. He would reference those conversations giving directions like a true Mainer.

His love for sports started at a young age playing at Auburn Suburban Little League. He played for many teams in the A.S.A. Men’s Slow-pitch League, notably West Breeze Orchards. Although his main love was baseball he played many sports including golf, basketball, volleyball, racquet ball, football, fishing and hockey.

Special thank you to Jan Roundy for years of loyal friendship and support of David and his family. To Desiree, Damien, Jamie Dufour, thank you for including David in everything, especially your hearts. To his co-workers, teammates, caretakers and neighbors you were his extended family.

He will forever be remembered telling the jokes that made your inner child laugh as well as peacefully watching the weather sitting in his chair from his front porch.

David is survived by his daughter, Shane and her husband Alfred Dufour of Auburn; his brother, E. Fred Burnham of Lewiston, his sister, Patty Burnham of Colorado, his sister-in-law, Janice LaChance of Lewiston; his aunt, Arlene of Lewiston; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

David is predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Jeanie; his son, Devin; his parents Carroll and Florence, his mother-in-law, Alexina Caron, his father-in-law, Albert LaChance; and his sister, Betty Burnham.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19 at The Fortin Group in Auburn, 217 Turner St. from 9 to 11 a.m. with a service beginning at 11 a.m. Committal will be held at St. Peters Cemetery in Lewiston.
