After capping off her high school hockey career with a second state championship, Lewiston senior forward Leah Landry now can add an historic first to her resume.
Landry was named the winner of the Becky Schaffer Award on Monday, which is presented annually by the Maine High School Girls Hockey Association to the most outstanding senior player in the state. Landry is the first Lewiston player to win the award in its five-year history.
The other finalists were Edward Little/Leavitt/Poland defenseman Eve Martineau and Scarborough goalie Ariella Swett. The award announcement was made during intermission of the Maine High School Girls Hockey Senior All-Star Game at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.
Landry scored 30 goals and provided 23 assists in 19 games this season for the Blue Devils, including two goals in Lewiston’s 3-0 win over Scarborough in the state championship game.
