100 Years Ago: 1922

Proof that higher education does not divorce the feminine interest from the home is advanced by coeds at Boston University. Records at the college show that 80 percent of the 9,000 students, most of whom are girls, are either partially or wholly self-supporting. They earn their tuition by filling positions ranging from chaufour to under secretary of a legation. Most of the young women, however, act as cooks, waitresses, maids, mothers helpers and laundry assistants.

50 Years Ago: 1972

A group  of alumni of Gorham College gathered at the home of Mrs. Richard Norcross, 168 Summit St Auburn, for the purpose of  organization of an alumni branch for Lewiston and  Auburn and surrounding towns. About 45 interested Gorham graduates were present and plans were discussed for inviting several of the college faculty members to attend. A program of colored slides was shown of the campus and the Portland campus. Mrs. Bertha Higgins, alumni director, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Lowe. Mr. and; Mrs. Charles Gaspar, Maurice Littlefield, development director and Alexander Juniewiex, alumni president attended from Gorham.

25 Years Ago: 1997

Yuriko  and Dance Company will present a dance concert at Pickard Theater, Bowdoin College, Mar. 30, at 8 p.m. A college spokesman said today tickets are available in advance and will be sold at the door, The concert at Bowdoin will be one of highlights of a three-day residency by the virtuoso dancer and her company in the Bath-Brunswick area.
