DEAR SUN SPOTS: You have been very generous in the past in helping Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends. As some of you may know, Rose’s partner Norm Blais passed away, leaving Rose on her own with this very worthwhile endeavor. Steve Roop has graciously agreed to accept bottle and can donations at all of his Rooper’s Redemption Centers so Rose will no longer have to chase around to pick up these donations. When you drop off your returnables, just identify they are for Tommy’s and Rooper’s will see that the donations get to Rose. That’s the good news.

Rose called me this week to let me know that the large garage they used to house and rehabilitate the cats for the past 30 years burned down. As you all can imagine, this has been devastating to Rose and to Tommy’s.

There is an immediate need for a temporary place to house all the cats needing rehabilitation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be sent to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends at PO Box 274, Greene, ME 04236. Rose cannot thank you enough for all your help. — John, no town

ANSWER: OK, fans and friends of Tommy’s and kitty lovers everywhere, you know what to do. My heart goes out to Rose as she goes through these trying times. My hope is that you will rally around her anyway you can. Both she and Norm have put so much time and energy into saving feral cats by giving them food, shelter, medicine, and most of all, love and care.

John, thank you for keeping us posted on the situation. You can always count on Sun Spots to help you get the word out regarding these needs.

While I’m at it, I want to remind you all that Sun Spots is the place to write to if your nonprofit has needs or is hosting a fundraiser. In regard to the latter, please send in your information two weeks before the date.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was taking my daily walk on East Avenue this past Monday when a big black dog crossed the street and ran after me, barking and chasing me in a threatening manner. I was absolutely terrified!

I would like to thank the very nice lady who was driving down the street, saw what was going on, and drove her car extremely slowly, following me very closely for several minutes and staying with me until the dog was no longer in sight and a danger to me. I don’t know who the woman is but I hope she reads Sun Spots and sees how truly appreciative I am for what she did. It would have been far more terrifying if she had not been there to protect me. – Joanne, no town

ANSWER: I have been chased by a dog before and it can have a bad ending. I’m so glad this kind person came up along side you and gave you support. This serves as a reminder to all dog owners: please take care to always know your dog’s whereabouts. I know they can get out and away from you sometimes by accident, but hopefully you have trained them so they won’t scare anyone or cause harm.
