AFCI
Remember when you had to “baby-proof” your house when your children were small or your grandchildren came to visit? The same is true for people at the other end of the human spectrum. The home we easily navigated in our early years may hide potential hazards as we become less sure-footed or unable to rely on our vision or hearing.

Some people feel safer in a community residence built especially for less mobile older adults. But many prefer to stay in their own home as long as possible. AFCI hopes to support that.

Is yours one of our community’s two-story farm homes, a Victorian townhouse, an older trailer, or a ranch? You may start finding that steps are becoming more of a burden to navigate. Perhaps you notice that it is getting harder to get off the toilet, out of the shower, or off the couch. Help is available!

For the past five years, the Age-Friendly Community Initiative has been offering no-cost Home Modification assessments. A licensed Occupational Therapist, certified in Home Modifications, comes to your home and conducts both a personal physical assessment and an environmental audit.

She then provides a written report suggesting low-cost changes as well as more long-term remodeling ideas.  Want to get started on the process? You may contact Brie directly to set up an appointment, which is covered by AFCI. (brieweisman@yahoo.com or 207-364-7056)
