100 Years Ago: 1922

At the big masquerade hall to be staged in Auburn Hall Friday night by the Women’s Auxiliary of the Alden Gayton Post, several novelty dances will be introduced, including a favor and serpentine number. The Grand March begins at nine o’clock at which time prizes for the best costumes will be awarded.

50 Years Ago: 1972

The evening of June 2 is a very special date for friends of the Central Maine General Hospital. An Antique Auction will highlight a festive and fascinating event to be held at Lost Valley. A champagne hour beginning at eight o’clock will precede the auction. Mrs. John R. Linnell of Auburn is chairman of this novel fund-raising project.

25 Years Ago: 1997

(from a Journal photo) The Auburn Business Association’s 1997 Citizen of the Year will be named May 1 at the 24th annual Citizen of the  Year banquet at the Lost Valley Ski area banquet facility. Some past recipients of the award are pictured in front from the left, Ralph Tuttle, Bethel Shields, Toni Ramsey and Clarence Cole, Jerry LaPlante, Tom Hackett and Penny Woodard.
