AUBURN – Francis L. “Frank” Leonas, 75, of Greene, passed on into eternal rest on Sunday June 26, 2022 with his loving wife at his side. Born in Lewiston Jan. 11, 1947, he was the only child of Francis J. and Alice (Michaud) Leonas.

Frank graduated from Lewiston high School in 1966 and shortly thereafter, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.

He served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was a proud Vietnam Veteran. On Jan. 7, 1995 he married Mary (Vye) Sylvain-Leonas and they made their home together in Greene for the past 35 years. Frank was a skilled, “old-school” carpenter and builder for more than 50 years. He owned and operated Excalibur Construction and proudly built quality homes in and around Maine.

Upon retirement, Frank pursued his interests in collecting sports and non-sports memorabilia, collecting model cars, and crafting hand-made walking canes.

Frank and Mary enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean for nearly all of their vacations. Together, they also enjoyed short trips to casinos, trips to Old Orchard for pizza and Pier Fries and simply going out to eat. Frank leaves an indelible memory in the minds and hearts of many. Though nick-named “Grumpy” by family and friends, he had a huge heart and will be missed by many.

Frank leaves behind his wife of 27 years, Mary Sylvain-Leonas of Greene; two sons, Jesse Leonas and wife Debbie of Readsboro, Vt. and Brett Leonas and wife Jennie of Bluffton, S.C., two stepsons, Woody Irish Jr. and wife Lisa of Greene and Patrick Sylvain of Minot, three stepdaughters, Valerie Irish of Lewiston, Shanna Breton of Poland and Misty Michel and husband Erik of Sabattus; 20 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; as well as many cousins.

Frank was predeceased by his mother and father; and a stepdaughter, Maureen Ray of Greene.

Visitation Fortin Group/ Lewiston, Tues. July 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral at the funeral home Wed. 11 a.m. Committal prayers St. Peter’s Cemetery.
