Normand “Norm” Paul Morin

AUBURN – Normand “Norm” Paul Morin passed away peacefully at Odd Fellows Nursing Home on June 28, 2022, after a courageous battle with dementia.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1932 to Yolande (née Bernard) and Remus Morin. He attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School in 1951. He married Constance “Connie” Lajoie in 1957.

As a young man, Norm developed skills in appliance mechanics and componentry, and opened his own appliance and TV repair shop. After his marriage, Norm took a position at Snow’s Appliance store, where he worked for several years. The bulk of his career, however, took place at Bath Iron Works where he started out as a ship-fitter and was eventually promoted to Quality Assurance. He retired in the early 1990s.

Norm’s big and noble spirit will be sorely missed. Armed with a strong work ethic, Norm fought through adversity to build a life for himself and his family. Although he sometimes seemed stern, those who knew him well also knew his sentimental heart. He was quick with a word of encouragement in a tough time, or a wipe of a tear during a sad movie. He loved his wife, Connie, dearly. They had five children and were further blessed with six grandchildren, all of whom he loved with all his heart. Norm was a down-to-earth, practical man, one not given to frivolity, but he loved to joke and tease and to have a good time.

Norm was a locksmith and fixer of almost all things: toasters, cars, lamps, keys. He built the New Auburn home in which he and Connie raised their family, where he lived for 53 years. One of his favorite movies was “The Sound of Music”. He also enjoyed old movies of all ages, and music from the 1940s. He was an avid genealogist and volunteered in the Genealogy Library at the Franco-American Center in Lewiston. Some of Norm’s other hobbies included gardening and photography. His family would like to thank the incredible staff of Odd Fellows’ Nursing Home for the compassionate and excellent care they provided Norm during his stay there.

Norm is survived by his four children, Dr. Paul Morin of New Gloucester, Ray Morin and his wife, Rhonda, of New Gloucester, Ann Seger and her husband, Jeff, of South Berwick, and Diane Bernier and her husband, Leo, of Minot. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Jordan and Trevor Morin, Eva and Graham Seger, and Benjamin and Alexander Bernier. He is further remembered by a sister, Louise Ladakakos, and her husband, John, of Seminole, Fla.

He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Connie; baby daughter, Lucille; and a brother, Maurice Morin, formerly of Auburn.

Funeral services and celebration of life will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Auburn, Friday July 8 at 11 a.m. Committal prayers will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
