Who is Victor Orban? He is the autocratic, self-elected, “forever” leader of Hungary, and a guest speaker at the Conservative Political Action Conference held Aug. 4-7 in Dallas, Texas.

Orban represents Hitlerian policies of racial and gender purity, supports abortion and immigration bans, and generally opposes many of the freedoms that we enjoy in America. He proposes increasing birth rates, and strict separation of the races.

His policies are seen as extremely hard right, as are those in Russia, China and most autocratic countries. He is shunned by all except the autocratic countries in Western Europe.

One of Oban’s top aides resigned, saying his speech sounded as if it were given by a “Nazi.” The speech was frightening to hear in a free America — even more frightening is the knowledge that he is being “warmly embraced” by members of the Republican Party. Yet many Americans are unaware of this critical threat to our constitutional democracy. There is much to fear — autocracy is absolute power residing in one person who will have the means to control all of the levers of government, as well as the media. These are the tools that all autocrats and dictators desire, because they open a pathway to complete control. In politics, a forever presidency.

I fear we are at a choice point. Which will it be, autocracy or democracy? It’s up to the people. I encourage them to vote.
