The Norm Parent Scholarship Foundation recently awarded its 2022 scholarship to Mya Grant, a scholar-athlete and recent graduate of Lewiston High School.

Grant plans to attend Bowdoin College in this fall.

Parent was an outstanding athlete at both Lewiston High School (football, hockey and baseball) and Bates College (football and baseball). He served as a coach and athletic director at Lewiston High School from 1951 to 1974. He coached the football, hockey and baseball teams and won six state championships as the football coach, according to a news release from the foundation.

Parent has been inducted in both the Auburn-Lewiston Hall of Fame and the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.

He was awarded both a Silver Star and a Bronze Star for heroism in ground combat in World War II. He was also awarded the Croix de Guerre by the French Government, personally awarded to him by General Charles DeGaulle.

The Norm Parent Scholarship Foundation aims to assist local youth in their pursuit of further education. Since its inception in 1975, the foundation has each year awarded a scholarship to graduates of Lewiston High School.
