AUBURN – Ronald “Ron” L. Caron, 78, of Hartford, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2022, at the Androscoggin Hospice House.

He was born on Nov. 22, 1943, in Lewiston, the son of Ronald A. and Ida A. (Rodrigue) Caron. He grew up in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1961. He also graduated from the University of Maine, obtaining his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

He later was employed as a full time instructor at Central Maine Community College for thirteen years as a drafting and design instructor. While teaching at CMVTI, he was awarded a grant by the National Institute of Science to attend the University of Illinois for two summers. National Science Foundation promotes education in post-secondary education in Community Technical Colleges. In addition, while working for a European manufacturing company doing drafting and design work he was awarded some U.S. patents for inventions to their product line.

Ron served and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Reserves. He worked for numerous local machine shops and metal fabrication shops doing design and drafting work.

In 1965, he married Mary Ellen Wood and they raised their sons Randy and Robin in Auburn. She passed away in 1994 from breast cancer. Ron later married Janice A. Boucher of Hartford, who survives him.

He is also survived by his son Randy M. and his wife Dawn (Contino) Caron of Las Vegas, Nev., and two grandsons, Riley and Reis. He had one brother Richard (recently deceased) and his wife  Diane Caron and his sister Joline Caron both of Lewiston, as well as his stepchildren Skip Boucher (Elaine) and Nikki St. Pierre (Phil), grandchildren, great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ron was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Mary Ellen Wood and his son Robin Caron (Sept. 15, 2021).

He was a quiet man who loved his family, worked hard and enjoyed being outside, especially near the ocean.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Oct. 15, 2022, from 4 – 8 p.m., at the Carriage House Plus, 1119 Lisbon Street, Lewiston. The interment will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery privately at a later date.
