Robert “Bob”” A. Soucy

LEWISTON – Robert “Bob”” A. Soucy died peacefully on Sept. 27, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born August 28, 1933, in Lewiston, the son of Fred T. and Eva Berthiaume Soucy.

In 1954, Bob enlisted in the Maine National Guard and then in the Army, serving in Korea. Prior to his discharge from the Army at Fort Benning, he studied law enforcement and upon leaving the military, joined the Lewiston Police Department in 1956. He retired from the force in 1979 as the Captain of Detectives. He was proud to work alongside his father who also retired from the Lewiston Police Department many years before him.

Bob also worked as Chief Deputy at the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department and then started his own business, Maine Investigations, where he was licensed in Maine and New Hampshire. He enjoyed the many interesting cases he worked on over the years.

Bob married Irene Beaulieu on April 19, 1958. Never one to be idle, they owned and rented out several apartment buildings in Lewiston, four camps on Ellis Pond in Roxbury and also partnered with Irene’s brother, Roger Beaulieu, owning three coin-op laundromats in Lewiston, Livermore Falls, and Sabattus.

Bob loved to hunt and enjoyed his many trips over 50 years to his friend Ray Chabot’s camp on Rapid River in western Maine. He and Irene also owned a 20-acre farm on Black Mountain Road in Sumner where he enjoyed hunting, riding his horse and hosting family gatherings. After raising their four boys, who Bob was very proud of, he and Irene took many trips together, visiting every state in the country and traveling around the world.

Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Irene; their four sons and their wives, Mark and Rachel of Augusta, Gary and Denise of Lewiston, Michael and Cindy of Topsham, and Peter and Gina of Berwick. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, John, Jonathan, Jacob, Jessica, Joshua, Adam, Bryan, Jenna, and Kristian; and one sister, Janet, of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents and an older brother, Fred Jr.

Thank you to Theresa, Dee, and the rest of the staff at Russell Park Manor for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held on Oct. 7, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lisbon Falls.
