DEAR SUN SPOTS: Liliana Tripp is in her third year of collecting nonperishables for area food pantries. We are collecting donations at 64 Rabbit Valley Road in Oxford from now until Nov. 20. Please help us supply food and Thanksgiving supplies to those in need.  Thank you so much! — Laura, Oxford

ANSWER: I’m completely impressed with this young woman who reached out to Sun Spots a few years back to tell us about her fundraising. At such a young age, (I believe she is now 10), Lillian is making a difference in her corner of the world and you can, too, by donating goods to her cause as she helps people in the area who need a hand with food, school supplies and other items. I’m so glad you’re in Sun Spots Land, Liliana! You sure do make it shinier.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Every year I used to purchase Flagship movie books from an organization who was fundraising. Since the pandemic, I haven’t seen any for sale, but I’m hoping they will be sold again. If any organizations are selling these, please email me at loristhilaire126@gmail.com .  – Lori, no town

ANSWER: I remember this question from a year or two ago. I’m putting this out into Sun Spots Land again to see if any nonprofits, schools, or groups know who has sold these movie tickets in the past or are selling them now. Movie tickets make great gifts.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for someone local who can install an outdoor wheelchair lift, not a stair lift, but something like a mini-elevator. I’ve found many companies who sell them online, but I really want someone local to install it. I’ve called SeniorsPlus to see if they can help, but they referred me to you.

I read your column every day and have used several of the referrals you’ve listed. Thank you for the help you provide for all of us. — Jackie, Auburn

ANSWER: So my understanding is that you are considering buying the chair lift online and only need someone to install it.

Your local building permit office may have certain requirements about the lift itself and who is authorized to do residential lift installations so check with them first before you go any further in the process. Hopefully, they, or the company where you’re purchasing the lift, will also have a list of contractors in the area who are experienced and know exactly what you need.

If you’re receiving any funding for this type of home modification (for example, by Veterans Affairs), the funding organization may also have certain criteria regarding who is authorized to install the lift system. They may also be able to recommend skilled contractors.

Mobility 101 of Maine in Scarborough sells the outdoor lifts and have trained technicians on staff for installation. If you haven’t already purchased your lift, they offer free in-home consultations. The number is 1-888-253-4450. The store is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please let us know how this all goes.
