A Westbrook man and a North Waterboro woman were killed Tuesday morning and two others were injured when a car and a minivan collided in Waterboro, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicles were heading in opposite directions on Townhouse Road when they collided around 7:45 a.m.

Hassan Abad Tukan, 51, of Westbrook, and April Barfield, 47, of North Waterboro died at the scene. Two passengers in the vehicle driven by Tukan were transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford.

Contacted late Tuesday night, King said both passengers were hospitalized, but he didn’t provide details of their injuries.

Tukan was driving a 2010 Chrysler Town & Country minivan owned by Southern Maine Transportation, King said. The van was traveling south when it collided with a northbound 2020 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Barfield on Townhouse Road. Both vehicles were heavily damaged.

Barfield was alone in her vehicle. Mary Doughty, 34, and Christopher Curtis, 25, both of Standish were in the van.

An official with Southern Maine Transportation, based in Portland, declined to offer details about the van and where it was headed because the crash remains under investigation.

The crash is being reconstructed by the Maine State Police, assisted by the York County Sheriff’s Office.
