LIVERMORE FALLS — Selectmen approved special amusement and alcohol permits on Tuesday and waived the fees for two nonprofits putting on Halls of Horror at the former high school at 25 Cedar St.

The United Way of the Tri-Valley Area, based in Farmington, and Area Youth Sports in Livermore Falls are the sponsors, with help from area businesses. The Halloween-themed event will take place from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21 and 22, and next Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28 and 29, and will be broken into 30-minute time slots. As of Wednesday, time slots of 7 to 7:30 p.m. for both Friday and Saturday were sold out, United Way Executive Director Kendra Baker said.

Baker told selectmen that the United Way has held Halls of Horror for five years and decided a few years ago to venture to other parts of their coverage area.

The two nonprofits are being supported by fundraising and provide something to the community, Baker said.

Merry St. Pierre of Livermore, who typically puts on the Haunted Trail of Livermore, is not doing it this year. She is now working with the organizers of Halls of Horror. She said her haunted trail brought in lots of people and got the area great exposure, and now believes this will do the same.

Brandon Hobbs, Livermore Falls code enforcement officer, and the Office of State Fire Marshal have done a walk-through. Emergency responders will also have a presence there.

There will be a wine and beer area available each day for people 21 years and older with proper identification, as well as concessions and other activities.

General admission is $20, with $40 to $60 options which include two free drinks and more horror.

The recommended age is 13 years and older but if a parent or guardian feels their younger child is up to it, they need to accompany them, Baker said.

To register for a time slot, visit https://www.facebook.com/hallsofhorrormaine — which has a tab to get tickets. Tickets will also be offered the evening of each event, but it is unknown what time slots will remain available. People are asked to arrive 15 minutes early. For more information, call Chelsie Whittier at the United Way at 207-778-5048, ext. 4 or email cwhittier@uwtva.org.

There will also be a scare-free youth event from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31, at the building now owned by AYS. This event is free and will include ghost stories, mad science lab, face painting, glow dance party and more. No alcohol will be served at this event.
