DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Spruce Mountain High School Craft Fair is back and will benefit the SMHS Class of 2023. The fair will be held on Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the high school at 33 Community Dr. in Jay.

Vendor applications will be taken until Nov. 2 and only one consultant from each district sales company is allowed. Spaces are approximately 10 feet wide and include an 8-foot table with two chairs. (Assistance in unloading/loading goods and vendor lunch is included). Please contact [email protected] or [email protected] to inquire about securing vendor spots.

The fair highlights fabulously talented artisans, craftsmen and craftswomen, and local venders. There will be raffles, fresh baked goods, and chili and soups for lunch. It is so exciting to have the return of this craft fair in our community to support the students at Spruce Mountain High School. — Tammy, no town

ANSWER: Oh my goodness — there are so many craft fairs to choose from. I’m adding this one to my list. I’m so ready!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: In response to the Oct. 12 letter from a knitter who was looking for Giving Trees to donate mittens and hats, we would like her to know that the United Methodist Church in Auburn has a Giving Tree that will be providing gift cards to approximately 100 Auburn elementary students. Knitted hat and mittens would be appreciated to keep these little ones warm on the cold winter days. If you have any questions, please call the church at 782-3972. — Cheryl, no town

ANSWER: Thank you! I love that the church is involved with keeping children in Sun Spots Land warm this winter. I feel cozy just thinking about it!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m writing to ask if you could find someone to fix my radio. I think it needs a new switch. My phone number is 755-1127. — No name, no town

ANSWER: I’m putting this request out to the good folks in Sun Spots Land. Does anyone repair radios anymore? Our reader may have to purchase a new one and it’s tough to find something basic that’s not too complicated to use. Any advice, recommendations, and tips are appreciated.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Do you know anyone in the Lewiston/Auburn area who makes creton? — No name, no town

ANSWER: You can purchase delicious creton pork spread (or, as I’ve heard some people call it, “Canadian peanut butter”) made and sold by E.W. Maillot Sausage Company right in Lewiston at 228 Bartlett St., and at various area grocery stores. You’ll usually find it near the sausages, ham and bacon.

Sausage Kitchen (https://www.thesausagekitchen.com/)at 36 Main St. in Lisbon Falls (353-5503) has creton, as does Bourque’s (https://www.bourquesmarket.com/) at 644 Sabattus St. in Lewiston (782-1385).

Also check out Ward’s Neighborhood Market (https://www.wardsmarket.com/) at 208 Pine St. in Lewiston (784-6321).

Readers, where do you get your creton, and how do you like it best? My French-Canadian (maternal) grandmother made her own, with Grandpa’s help, then served it for Saturday lunch on her toasted homemade wheat berry bread, with homemade sweet pickles on the side. It was my favorite!

Does anyone have a good recipe they’d like to share?
