PARIS — The race for Oxford County Sheriff is too close to call.
With votes from 23 of the nearly three dozen municipalities reporting, Independent challenger Justin Brown held a 36-vote advantage over Republican incumbent Christopher Wainwright out of 17,060 votes cast in Tuesday’s election.
Wainwright’s hometown of Canton plus the towns of Fryeburg, Mexico and Rumford had not yet reported their results late Tuesday night.
Brown, 44, is a Hartford resident who has worked for the Sheriff’s Office for more than 22 years and has served as lieutenant of the Criminal Investigation Division.
Wainwright, 51, of Canton, is seeking his second term as sheriff. He has worked for the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office since he was 19 years old.
