JAY — The Select Board voted 4-0 on Monday to appoint former state Rep. Tina Riley to a vacant position on the Regional School Unit 73 board of directors.
Riley was one of seven residents to submit their names to be considered for the five-month position formerly held by J. Lynn Ouellette.
The board thanked residents who were willing to serve as a director.
An election will be held for a two-year term at the annual Town Meeting in April 2023.
Selectpersons asked candidates to answer two questions: Why are you interested in the position and what makes you a strong candidate. All seven did.
Riley wrote that she was interested in the position because she is the daughter of a middle school teacher and principal.
“I have a lifelong appreciation for teachers, students, and the public education system,” she wrote.
Riley is an electrician by trade. She served two terms in the Maine House of Representatives.
Others interest in the position were Danielle Walsh Brotherton, Tanya DeMillo, Shari Ouellette, Tarek Nadeau, Esther Nolin and Alyssa Foster.
