The body found last weekend on Sears Island has been identified as a University of Maine Presque Isle student who had been missing for over a month.

Chase Dmuchowsky, 21, was last seen at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 when he left his dorm room. His Ford Expedition was found about five hours later in the middle of the Penobscot Narrows Bridge in Hancock County. The car was unoccupied and idling with the hazard lights on, Presque Isle police said at the time.

On Nov. 26, a group of hikers found a body wearing clothing that matched the description of what Dmuchowsky was last seen wearing. His identity was confirmed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Presque Isle police said Friday.

In an update posted this week on a GoFundMe account started by Dmuchowsky’s sister, the family said it is in the process of making funeral arrangements.

“We are deeply saddened to update that Chase’s body has been located. Words cannot express the pain Chase’s loved ones are experiencing,” they wrote. “We appreciate everyone’s support and donations in the effort to find Chase.”
