I would like to comment on the homelessness crisis in Central Maine. My heart will always be with Central Maine, especially Lewiston.

As a 30-year-old I had $70 and a ticket to catch a Greyhound bus to Sarasota, Florida. I arrived at midnight with no home and no familiarly with Sarasota — my journey as a homeless person had begun.

The police were trying to prevent people from camping out, and were arresting those who were camping out. The homeless started a campaign; they were able to get more services like hot food in the park.

We need to rally around Maine for more permanent housing; people should take a look at Rolando, California — they are using single-pallet houses, which can be sterilized, and the consumer using them gets services.

We need to follow their example and bring pallet houses to Maine.
