HARTFORD – Jack G. Meader, 77, a longtime resident of Hartford, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 13, 2023, at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Gray on Jan. 11, 1946, one of three children born to Melvin G. and Marion K. (Brown) Meader.

Jack grew up in Yarmouth and attended Yarmouth schools. In June of 1966, Jack entered the U.S. Coast Guard and served his country for four years until his Honorable Discharge. Following his time in the military, he attained training in telecommunications and soon after, co-founded North Star Communications, which he co-owned and operated for many years until his retirement in 2000. He built a large customer base in central Maine and served his customers well.

Jack was always an avid outdoorsman all of his life and in his younger years, he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. In the past 20 years, living in Hartford, he enjoyed gardening and had a passion for building rock walls and gardens on his property. He always enjoyed his time around the house and simply took great pleasure in the relaxed and quiet solitude of his home and property in the mountains of western Maine. He was often outside splitting wood, stacking rocks or planting perennials and trees around his property. Jack was a loving, devoted and hardworking father and grandfather who will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his son Nicholas Meader and his wife Laura of Watertown, Mass., his daughter Meghan Wells and her husband Levi of Turner; four grandchildren, Avery and Sierra Wells, and Hannah and Jackson Meader; his brother George Meader and wife Kathy of Milo, his sister Jill Meader of Bath; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Matty, his companion of many years. Jack was predeceased by his parents.

A graveside service will take place in the spring in the family lot at Keens Mills Cemetery in Turner. To leave a message for the family in their online guestbook, please visit http://www.thefortingroupauburn.com
