Lucille Phyllis Gardner

PORTLAND – Lucille Phyllis Gardner, 85, of East Dixfield, succumbed to heart disease, Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, at Maine Medical Center after a short period of declining health. She was born at home in Fayette, Dec. 18, 1937, daughter of Charles Leslie and Christie (Belle) Carl Knox.

On Dec. 7, 1968, she married David Gardner at Bean’s Corner Baptist Church in Jay and they built their home in East Dixfield, where they raised their two daughters.

Lucille was known as a hard worker, primarily working at various shoe shops in the area over the years. She was the matriarch of the family hosting many family gatherings at her home during the holidays and special occasions. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and rarely missed any of their events. 

She is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Angela Gardner and Wanda McLeod; five grandchildren Amy, Brad, Alannah, Lisa, and Luke; two great-grandchildren Ariella and Tillden, along with several cherished nieces and a nephews; she was predeceased by her son, Curtis Knox, and all of her siblings.

Private family graveside memorial services will be held at Lakeview Cemetery in Wilton in the spring. Memories may be shared with her family in her Book of Memories at http://www.wilesrc.com.

Cremation care and memorial services are being cared for and provided by the Wiles Remembrance Center of Farmington.
