BETHEL — Crews from several towns were battling a structure fire on Chapman Hill Road early Friday evening.

The first reports came in about 5:30 p.m. that the two-story house was engulfed in flames. The first fire crews on scene reported heavy smoke and flames. Additional manpower was requested from several towns, including Newry, Greenwood and Woodstock.

A short time later, help was requested from Gilead, as well and fire crews were asking for additional tankers.

Chapman Hill Road is a dead end off North Road. It was not immediately clear whether anyone was at home when the fire was reported.

The fire was reported under control about 6:15 p.m.
