I write in support of Mayor Carl Sheline.
I am relatively new to Lewiston, having lived here for one year. We moved here last January from Florida.
Since arriving here I have been so impressed with Mayor Sheline. He is so committed to making Lewiston a better, safer place for all of our citizens. He is a wonderful, hands-on mayor for whom we should all be thankful.
That’s why I was so shocked when I read in the Sun Journal that the City Council had censured him. It made no sense, especially when councilors explained that it was because he had written a letter, one that he never mailed to anyone. So that implies that one can be censured simply for thinking something.
I don’t know about other people, but I have had great ideas that I later thought were not that smart. Does that mean I could be censured for having had those thoughts?
I believe all of our elected officials should be allowed to express his or her opinions. It is not mandatory that you agree with what is being expressed. It just appears that someone is simply making an excuse to make something out of nothing.
