“Really excited about having him working with the program,” Spruce Mountain athletic director Marc Keller said Saturday, “and really looking forward to everything he’s going to be able to bring, the new excitement, the energy, and you just know things are going to go well.”

Hersom played quarterback at Leavitt and won the Fitzpatrick Trophy after his senior season in 2011.

Spruce Mountain will be his first head coaching job after serving as an assistant with a few programs recently. He is the son of Jim Hersom, who has been a coach at several schools — mostly recently at Dirigo, but also Livermore Falls, which merged with Jay to become Spruce Mountain High School in 2011.

Jordan Hersom replaces David Frey, who had led the Phoenix football program since midway through the 2016 season before resigning in November.
