Amelie Grube of Winthrop, a senior at Winthrop High School, has been selected to receive the 2023 Principal’s Award, according to a news release from Principal Jay Dufour.

The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

“Throughout her years at Winthrop High School, Amelie has distinguished herself in the classroom, as a leader and mentor in our school, and as a leader in the community,” Dufour noted in making the award. “While at Winthrop, Amelie was involved in co-curriculars including WBUS, Outing Club, and the Civil Rights Team. Amelie was also a member of the Student Council and Student Leadership Team, student representative to the School Committee, secretary of the Class of 2023, and president. She also volunteers her time to several organizations in the local community.”

Grube, Dufour and other award winners and their principals plan to attend an honors luncheon on Saturday, April 1, at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.

The luncheon recognizes students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of 10 $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA executive directors: Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler, and Richard A. Durost.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
