100 Years Ago: 1923

Tuesday evening about twenty-five of the parishioners at rather a late hour hung Rev. and Mrs. Ordell E. Bryant a Maybasket filled with a generous supply of the necessities of life. Following this they enjoyed a social hour with music and refreshments which the parishioners brought with them. This was in the form of a reception for Rev. and Mrs. Bryant who are to remain here for another year.

50 Years Ago: 1973

(Sun Journal photo) Sixty Central Middle School students, including the school’s chorus, will take part in a musical based on Mark Twain’s famous all American boy story. A talented local performer and teacher, Mrs. Kenneth Orr has written the score for the musical which will be presented twice: on Wednesday for the Central School students and their guests from Webster Middle School, and for parents and the general public on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Both of his performances will be presented in the Central School Auditorium. Those directing plans for the affair include, from the left Jeffrey Cale and Mrs. Elizabeth Williams directors; Miss Marjorie MacMillan, assistant dialogue director and Mrs. Orr, who in the addition to her composing serves as accompanist for the show with percussionist Steve Mercier of Webster School. Others assisting are Thomas Wyatt, production manager; Joanne Merrill, Shirley Taylor and co Mrs. Thelma Brissette, costumes, Jill Spencer, props and Larry Helm, lighting.

25 Years Ago: 1998

Community Little Theater announces a gala Grand Opening Night for its production of the “Wizard of Oz” at 8 p.m. Friday. There will be a drawing for prizes from show and season sponsors, a gift certificate from Nutcracker Sweets, and a special drawing for a Wizard sweatshirt, personally auto- graphed by the cast. All ticket-holders are invited to a reception after the show to meet the cast and crew.
