Six Lewiston men were arrested Tuesday morning on bench warrants from the superior court, as the result of secret indictments by the grand jury. They are each held in $1,000 bonds. There remains but one secret indictment to be revealed.

Nearly 400 motorists were issued warnings during the first two weeks of the Auburn Police Department’s new accident reduction program FARE (fatal accident reduction and enforcement).
25 Years Ago: 1998
Mead Corp. was flooded with phone calls Thursday from landowners and others asking what its criteria are for land to build a wood chipping mill, spokesman Jeff Nevins said. The calls came one day after the Rumford paper making mill announced it was abandoning plans to build a $12 million chipping plant on its land along Route 2 in Hanover. The estimated $8 million in additional cost to answer residents’ concerns about dust, noise, traffic and light was the reason, officials said.
