DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Poland Spring Preservation Summer Concert Series begins Monday. Concerts will be held every Monday through Aug. 28.  The concert series supports the society, which is charged with the preservation of the Maine State Building and the All Souls Chapel on the grounds of the Poland Spring Inn.

The performances feature an eclectic mix of music of the ’60s through contemporary, the jazz of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, bluegrass, afrobeat, reggae, funk and more.

The concerts are held at the gazebo in front of the Poland Spring Inn on Route 26 in Poland. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be inside the inn. DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Friends of New Gloucester Public Library are looking for donations for our fall book sale. Please bring your donations to the New Gloucester Public Library at 379 Intervale Road in the Lower Village during open hours. We are also hosting two targeted book collection dates on Sunday, July 30, and on Sunday, Aug. 27, from 1-3 p.m.

We’re particularly looking for children’s books, adult fiction and adult nonfiction. Please limit donations to two cartons or four grocery-sized bags. Containers will not be returned and library staff will not be available to assist in unloading donations.

All materials should be clean and free of odors, mold and mildew. The Friends are not accepting Reader’s Digest Condensed books, encyclopedias, text books, magazines, VHS tapes, DVDs or CDs.Stay tuned for an announcement about the fall book sale date and thank you all for your continued support. — Annemarie, New Gloucester
