AUGUSTA — An early lead didn’t last for Franklin County, which was eliminated from the Maine American Legion baseball state tournament by the Trenton Acadians on Friday.

The Flyers’ second loss of the double-elimination tournament was an 11-3 defeat at the hands of the unbeaten Acadians. Franklin County led 2-1 after two innings, but Trenton scored multiple runs in each frame from the third inning on to cruise to victory.

Hunter Curtis hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to break the game open and give Trenton a 6-2 lead.

Hayden Dippner paced Franklin’s offense with three hits from the leadoff spot, including a double. Isaac Parker, Trevor Phelps and Brody Walsh also collected hits.

Trenton will face Hampden for the tournament championship Saturday. The Acadians need just one win to secure the title, while Hampden would have to defeat undefeated Trenton twice to claim the crown.
