FARMINGTON — The search for the next town manager has started again after a candidate for the position withdrew.

Selectmen made the decision following a closed door session at the July 25 meeting.

“The finalist candidate withdrew during negotiations for personal reasons, so the Board voted to re-advertise the position,” interim Town Manager Cornell Knight wrote in an email to the Livermore Falls Advertiser.

Christian Waller resigned unexpectedly from the position in early February. He was hired in 2021 to take over from Richard Davis who had held the position for 20 years.

Knight was hired later in February as interim Town Manager while the search process proceeded.

Applications for the town manager position are due Aug. 17, Knight noted.

“The process will likely take a couple of months or so,” he wrote.  “David Barrett at Maine Municipal Association is continuing to handle the recruitment process.”
