WALES — Voters in Regional School Unit 4 on Tuesday overwhelmingly rejected a budget for 2023-24 for the second time this year. The total from the three towns as 221-493.

The tallies by town are: Sabattus, 256 no and 83 yes; Litchfield, 175 no and 85 yes; Wales, 62 no and 53 yes.

Superintendent Katy Grondin said in an email late Tuesday that she and the chairman of the board of directors will meet  Wednesday to discuss the timeline for the next budget vote.
“We will continue to work to bring in a budget that provides a high quality education for all RSU 4 students that is also fiscally responsible and one that the citizens of Wales, Litchfield and Sabattus will support,” she said.
Voters rejected the proposed $22.38 million proposal on June 13.
Tuesday’s proposal was $22.13 million, which is 3% more than for 2022-23 fiscal year which ended June 30.
