GRAY — A substitute teacher was charged with assault Wednesday, accused of grabbing a 14-year-old student by the throat the night before at Gray-New Gloucester High School.
Robert C. Doyle, 67, of Gray was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault and taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland where bail was set at $5,000 later Wednesday.

Police did not identify the student or provide details about what led up to the altercation. The case, they said, remains under investigation by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
