Motorists making use of the newest roadway in the Lewiston-Auburn – Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge – will have to keep on driving in the dark. There aren’t any plans for the installation of traffic lights in the area, it was learned today by the Journal.
The Maine Department of Transportation will install lights along the ramps and the exit areas near Center Street in Auburn, and Russell Street in Lewiston, but the mile-long stretch of roadway between the two points will remain in the dark.
Richard A. Leuttich, deputy commissioner of the Maine DOT, told the Journal today, when we inquired, the DOT considers the roadway and the ridge to be situated in a “semi rural” area.
