AUBURN — Police and fire departments responded to four small fires Saturday night in the downtown area, officials said.
Auburn Police Lt. Anthony Harrington confirmed a trash can fire at 7 Riverside Drive at 8:12 p.m.; a small fire at 9:55 p.m. near 20 Great Falls Plaza; and trash can and dumpster fires at 10:07 p.m. behind 68 Main St.
All fires were quickly extinguished, Harrington said.
“The matter is still under investigation,” he said.
Social media rumors claiming small fires occurred just across the bridge in Lewiston were false, Lewiston Police Lt. Derrick St. Laurent said. However, suspects were seen heading toward Lewiston, he said.
