LISBON — Candidates for town officers spoke at Tuesday night’s forum about their reasons for seeking election and what they see as issues to be addressed.

Fern Larochelle is being challenged for his Town Council seat by newcomer Scott Gaiason, who did not attend the forum.

Larochelle, a lifelong Lisbon resident, said there is more work to be done as the town continues to expand. Councilors need to spend the limited time they have in meetings to set and meet goals. He talked about updates needed for public safety agencies, including the Police Department, working together on those plans and informing residents about the best way to achieve them.

School Committee member Len Lednum said growing up with modest means gives him understanding about the benefits of a good public education. He said he is been able to be successful and wants to help ensure that students get an education that allows them to be successful after graduation. He is running unopposed.

Allen Ward is running unopposed for a Water Commission seat. He has more than 25 years of working in municipal government, along with six years of Town Council experience. He said he thinks that experience qualifies him for the position.

Ward would work to balance the need for good water quality with the cost of service to customers. There also needs to be investment in replacing the Water District’s aging infrastructure, he said.

Voters will elect officers Nov. 7.
